I located Bonanza and Chestnut Grove on the map to visualize where this family lived. Eastern Kentucky has such beautiful scenery. I try to imagine this growing family traveling from home to Chestnut Grove Church and back 100+ years ago.
There are stories about John's mother Matilda riding a horse quite a distance to visit family (It's one way I was able to finally tease out her history from the other Kilgores). And later generations were still horse people. So I imagine they had hoofed transportation. :)
