The children of Christopher Huntington (1624-1691) and Ruth Rockwell (1633-1683) of Norwich, Connecticut
Christopher Huntington was born in England to Simon Huntington and Margaret (Barrett) Huntington. He was baptized July 25, 1624, at Saint Andrew, Norwich (Co. Norfolk). Christopher arrived in Roxbury, Massachusetts, with his parents and two brothers (Simon and Thomas) in 1633. They relocated to Connecticut when his mother remarried.
Christopher married Ruth Rockwell (1633-1683) October 7, 1652, in Windsor, Connecticut. Ruth Rockwell was born August 1633 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, to William Rockwell and Susannah (Capen) Rockwell.
In 1678, Christopher was appointed Town Clerk in Saybrook. In 1685, he was a patentee for the town of Norwich.
Christopher died in 1691 and is memorialized in Founders Cemetery, Norwich, Connecticut. Ruth died February 14, 1683, in Norwich, Connecticut, and is presumed to be buried in Old Norwichtown Cemetery.
Christopher and Ruth had nine children:
1. Christopher born in 1653, possibly a twin. He died about 1654/5 in Saybrook.
2. Ruth born April 13, 1653, possibly a twin. She appears to have died in infancy.
3. Ruth born April 1658 in Saybrook, Connecticut. She married Samuel Pratt (1654-1705) March 26, 1681. They had one child in Norwich in February 1683 and she died a few days later.
4. Christopher born November 1, 1660, in Norwich, Connecticut. He was the first white male born in the town. He married (1st) Sarah Adgate (1663-1706), presumably in Norwich. One of their children was Colonel Jabez Huntington of the Connecticut Militia. He married (2nd) Judith (Stevens) Brewster (~1670~1732) October 1706. Christopher was Town Clerk of Norwich and appointed Deacon in 1695/6. He died April 24, 1735, in Norwich, and was buried in the old Norwich Burying Ground.
5. Thomas born March 18, 1664, in Norwich, Connecticut. He married Elizabeth Backus. I wrote about them and their children previously:
6. John born March 15, 1666, in Norwich, Connecticut. He married Abigail Lathrop (1665-1746) December 9, 1686. He was appointed Constable in Norwich in 1691. He died before 1703 when the General Assembly granted his widow what was left of his estate.
7. Susannah born August 1, 1668, in Norwich, Connecticut. She married Capt. Samuel Griswold (1665-1740) December 10, 1685, possibly in Saybrook, Connecticut. She died March 6, 1727, and is buried in Windham Center Cemetery, Windham Co., Connecticut.
8. Lydia (spelled Lydyah in the records) born August 1672 in Norwich, Connecticut. She was the second wife of Nathaniel Wales (1662-1744), who she married October 22, 1730, in Windham, Connecticut. She died November 23, 1754, and is presumed to be buried in Union Center Cemetery, Tolland Co., Connecticut.
9. Ann born October 25, 1675, in Norwich, Connecticut. She married Jonathon Bingham (1674-1751) October 28, 1697, in Windham, Connecticut. They had no children of their own but adopted their nephew Jonathan Bingham (son of Abel). She died August 29, 1756, and is buried in Windham Center Cemetery, Windham Co., Connecticut.
