Susannah North was born in 1621 in England to Richard North and Joan (Bartram) North. She came to Massachusetts with her father around 1640. She married George Martin August 11, 1646, in Salisbury, Massachusetts. They moved to Amesbury (so named in 1667) around 1655 and were some of the first settlers there. They had eight children, all with birth records in Salisbury, Massachusetts, prior to 1667, but only six survived. It is also assumed that she cared for her husband’s daughter from his first marriage. Susannah made enemies among her neighbors and daughters-in-law… she was hanged at Gallows Hill in Salem, Massachusetts, July 19, 1692, after being convicted of witchcraft.
