The Lincoln line of my family had already been documented by the time I was the one doing the research. My grandmother had joined DAR via John Lincoln before I was born. In our passed down notes, his wife was always given as Anna Martin Stowell (or Anna M. Stowell or simply Anna Stowell) and there was a bit of time where it wasn’t clear if it was a middle name (likely from her maternal line) or a previous marriage that gave her the two-barrel moniker. Eventually, it got sorted, and her first marriage came to light. Here’s what we know about her now.
Full references for this line can be found in My Lineage from the Roots Up, vol. 1.
Anna Martin was born July 15, 1725, in Windham, Connecticut, to George Martin, Jr. and Mercy Durkee. She was the great-granddaughter of Susannah (North) Martin, convicted Salem witch.
Anna married (1st) Ebenezer Stowell/Stoel/Stowel (1724-1753) February 19, 1746, in Hampton, Connecticut. They had four surviving children:
1. Eunice born about 1746 (baptized January 11, 1747) in Windham Co., Connecticut. She married Matthew Warner (1743-1823) in 1769 in Windham Co., Connecticut. She died November 21, 1837, and is buried in Worthington Center Cemetery, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts.
2. Jonathan born about 1748 (baptized September 11, 1748) in Windham Co., Connecticut. He married Anna Cummins (1750-1829) in 1773 in Mansfield, Connecticut. He died October 6, 1818, and is buried in Olde Mansfield Center Cemetery, Tolland Co., Connecticut.
3. Josiah born March 20, 1750, in Windham, Connecticut. He married Mary Leavens (1757-1830) November 5, 1772, in Mansfield, Connecticut. He died February 1, 1837, and is buried in Middlebury Cemetery, Addison Co., Vermont.
4. Patience born November 24 1753 (baptized December 23, 1753) in Windham, Connecticut. She married Thomas Kingsbury (1752-1844) April 2, 1778, in Windham, Connecticut. She died February 23, 1826, and is buried in Highland Cemetery, Lapeer, New York.
Anna married (2nd) John Lincoln (1726-1810) May 30, 1758, in Windham Co., Connecticut. They also had at least four children, who I documented previously.
Anna is thought to have died in 1791 in Windham, Connecticut. A stone in Windham Center Cemetery references 66-year-old “Mrs. Hannah, wife of Mr. John Linkon” who died in February 1791. This is believed to be her.
I love those 'middle' names that give us clues!
Oh... ya have me with the title. Well done!
