Pin It Aside #7 - The Art of Being a Magpie
Randomness - so much randomness
Sorting through my collection, for as many pins that brought forward a wave of nostalgia, there were just as many, if not more, that were just random shiny trinkets I had picked up along the way.
That’s probably made itself apparent by now.
But this week’s aside from genealogy is a look at some of the most random pins in my collection.
I’m going to try to put them in some semblance of order but, in all honesty, even I’m not sure why I have some of these.
Bears
Let’s start with the cute ones.
The fuzzy guy on the left is almost indiscernible as being a bear and is maybe a half inch tall - tiny - but it is in fact a Teddy. Then the guy with the clover is also small but a Russ. (I have no clue about bachelor #3)
He kind of matches the random Claddagh clover pin in my collection.
And then there’s this resin bear wreath - I seem to remember something about a relative with this one but honestly can’t place its significance. Probably something with Hallmark and my aunt since it’s a Boyds Bear brooch.
Shiny
The angel lapel pin is very small and the poor unicorn has seen better days. The gold paint has almost completely rubbed off the bow, where the pin mechanism is.
I’m actually surprised I don’t have more crystal pins - I collected pewter figurines for a while because there was a fantasy collection with little crystals on them that I loved. Dragons, fairies, castles - that’s probably where I got my fix for shiny.
Someone else’s
I was kind of notorious as a kid for collecting pins so I have at least a few that people just handed off because they had nothing better to do with them.
Dreamsicles was a Hallmark promotion, I remember that much. I have had the resin flower basket since very early in my collection, and the colors are wearing off. And I don’t recall ever actually going to the Three Rivers Festival. Yet…
My mom would have been pregnant with my sister at the time. I seem to remember she got this from someone at work.
Definitely mine
I was a huge Taz (Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes) fan. So, of course, I have this guy. He’s wearing antlers - one of Santa’s reindeer. It kind of matches a Christmas tree ornament I have that’s him tangled in lights.
And I was given this pin, which is signed by the artist, on a gift (birthday I think) but I honestly can’t tell you more than that. I liked it - it’s a dog, in case that isn’t obvious, but I was always afraid to wear it.
Recent Acquisitions
I already shared my snarky pins and recent acquisitions along those lines, but I haven’t yet shown you the absolutely adorable enamel pins from a local artist (I could not get the lighting right for the butterfly because it’s a gorgeous dark blue).
And another artist at the Goblin Market had this one, a stamped human heart - so of course I had to get it.
Unknown
These final two are origins unknown. The Trojan head may be from elementary school. These days, the entire Wawasee school system has the same mascot as the high school - the Warriors and Chief Wawasee - but North Webster Elementary used to be the Trojans (Wawasee Middle School was the Chargers).
