I took part in a transcription and indexing project last year for the Historian General’s Office of DAR. There were a number of us, all done online via scanned images of their old index card records (which had been a project to log all markers in 1940). I only really handled about 60 records myself, but they released the searchable database in February and I want to share the publicly available tools with you.
DAR has a long history of focusing on the records of Revolutionary War Patriots. This has included not just the soldiers, but their families and suppliers - anyone who conceivably assisted in fighting the British. The DAR Genealogical Research Database has recently expanded to include all known DAR markers of the graves of soldiers, their wives, their children, and the Real Daughters (the daughters of Revolutionary Patriots who started DAR), as well as all DAR historical and commemorative markers. There are also some records of “located graves”, but using my own ancestors I know not all are in there as they were dependent on the prior card index.
You can search the new database yourself by clicking here.
You’ll also see that you can search pension records and other publicly offered databases, like family Bibles, from that starting point.
If there’s a grave that is known but not marked, your local DAR or SAR chapter may be interested in placing a marker. You can find DAR chapters here.

Great work, thank you for sharing! 😉
This is good to know about. Thank you! I tried clicking on the link to the Index that you provided and got an error message. Just wondering if that is an issue isolated to me or an issue with the link?
