Ancestors in the Livery and Merchants' Guilds - GenTales Video

GenTales is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Several of my ancestors were tradesmen and involved in commercial ventures that directly affected the establishment of the American Colonies. But some of their families could trace their merchant roots back hundreds of years. These guilds go back to the Middle Ages but continue on today, mostly in philanthropic capacities.

The modern iterations of the mentioned guilds are available at the links below:

Mercers’ Company

Drapers’ Company

Merchant Taylors’

Goldsmiths’ Company

Grocers’ Company

Vintners’ Company - The photo of the stained glass in the video is used with a CC By SA 4.0 license from Paul the Archivist at Wikimedia.

Haberdashers’ Company

I wrote previously about the guilds my ancestors participated in at GenTales on Medium – you can read it by clicking here.

You can read about any of the ancestors I mention and their lineages in My Lineage from the Roots Up, vol. 2
